Etsy Shop Launch Checklist: What to Prepare Before You Open

A useful Etsy launch checklist is not a list of everything you could possibly do. It is a way to separate what needs attention before opening from what can be improved once your shop is live.
Etsy’s current setup process includes shop preferences, a shop name, payment and billing details, identity and security steps, and at least one listing before the shop can open. Beyond those platform requirements, there are business decisions worth preparing before launch too.
Use this guide as a pre-launch review. Some items will apply differently depending on what you sell, where you operate and whether your products are physical or digital.
Confirm the foundation before building the storefront.
Start with the decisions that everything else depends on. Be able to describe what you sell, who it is for and how it fits Etsy’s current marketplace rules. Etsy says items must be made, designed, handpicked or sourced by the seller and must comply with its Creativity Standards and other policies.
Do not use branding work to postpone a product decision. The shop should be built around a clear offer—not the other way around.
Get the products launch-ready.
Before you build listings, make sure the products themselves are ready to be sold and fulfilled. For a physical product, that may mean materials, production time, packaging and shipping. For a digital product, it may mean final files, delivery format and clear instructions for the buyer.
Prepare listings that answer the buyer’s questions.
Etsy’s current listing form covers photos and video, category, item details, options, pricing and shipping, how the item is made, and settings. Titles, descriptions, attributes and tags help Etsy and shoppers understand what you are selling.
Etsy currently allows up to 20 photos and two short videos per listing, and recommends listing images at least 2000 pixels wide and high. The platform also allows up to 13 tags per listing. Treat those as current platform details rather than permanent rules, and recheck them when you publish.

Set up the storefront buyers will actually see.
Your shop needs more than listings. Etsy’s current guidance includes a logo, banner and About information as storefront elements, along with shop policies and, where relevant, shipping profiles. Etsy also identifies a shop tagline, description, images/video and policies as important shop-page SEO elements.
Prepare the behind-the-scenes pieces.
A launch becomes much easier to manage when you already know what happens after someone buys. Prepare a simple process for orders, customer questions, files or packaging, and basic record keeping.
Etsy requires sellers to connect payment and billing information during setup, and currently charges a one-time, non-refundable shop set-up fee whose amount varies by location. Listing, transaction and payment-processing fees can also apply, along with other fees in certain circumstances. Build your pricing with current fees in mind rather than relying on an old calculator or screenshot.
A launch is easier when the first order is not the first time you have thought through what happens after the Buy button.
Make a simple launch plan—and decide what can wait.
You do not need a complicated campaign to open an Etsy shop, but you should know how you plan to bring the first visitors in and what you will review after launch.
Sort every remaining task into one of four buckets.
